The lodge provides self-catering accommodations. It is located in a peaceful area of outstanding natural beauty surrounded by a fir tree landscape with a view overlooking beautiful farmlands and impressive canyons. Situated in the Doubs (say ‘DOO’) region, not far from the Swiss border in the heart of the Jura Mountain range, on the French hillside of the river Doubs for which the region is named.
Here the river defines the border between Switzerland and France for a few kilometres. After meandering quietly and peacefully through Morteau, past Villers-le-Lac and Chaillexon lake, the river runs through deep sumptuous canyons and then crashes along the wild escarpments after dropping abruptly down 27 meters, a waterfall named “le Saut du Doubs”.
It is in the vicinity of this National Grand Site, classified First Natural Site of Franche Comté, in a sublime green environment, that the Gîte of Cerneux Billard was built in 1820, formerly a farm, with its imposing stone walls, authentic mortise and tenon joint carpentry.
The Gîte sleeps 60 people, 13 of them being in a mountain style dormitory. This is the perfect venue to organize events such as seminars, family gatherings, anniversaries, birthday or wedding parties.
